Utilizing Workforce Investment Act (WIA) allocations, the ACDJFS funds the WIA Youth Program that provides training, employment and supportive services to qualifying youth ages 14-21. Temporary Aide to Needy Families (TANF) funds finance the following county projects:
Family Strength and Stability Program - Services Provided by Ashland Parenting Plus, Agricultural and Family Center, 804 SR 250 East, Ashland. For information and eligibility, contact Erin Schaefer, Director and program co-ordinator at 419-281-3788 or visit the APP website at www.parentingplus.org:
- Teen Pregnancy Prevention - Education, peer support, and mentoring to prevent teenage pregnancy.
- Juvenile Diversion - Services, support and mentoring for at-risk teens and their families to prevent involvement with Juvenile Court and/or out of home placement.
- Parent Education - Training for families to prevent out of home placements, neglect and child abuse.
Literacy Skills - Reading education for Ashland County residents both children and parents. Literacy services are co-ordinated by Tri-County Education Service Center through Ashland City Schools, Hillsdale Local Schools, Loudonville-Perrysville Schools and Mapleton Local Schools. Eligible students are referred to the program by school personnel. Questions can be directed to Roberta Singleton at Tri-County, phone (330) 345-6771 extension 275. Employment Training and Work Skills Development - A program designed to prepare eligible Ashland County residents to obtain and retain self-sustaining employment. Training provided is Transformation Network, 317 Pleasant St., Ashland. Participants are referred by ACDJFS Staff.
